| Room Information: Nbr of rooms - 25 Nbr of floors - 3 Nbr of non-smoking rooms - 25 Very much like when it was built in 1907, this simple and elegant inn whispers, relax...in the summer, soft breezes nudge along the comforting scents of sea air and woodland pine . just across eggemoggin reach and toward the setting sun, is pumpkin island lighthouse. the view is breathtaking. shore oaks has a spacious interior. the living room is a graciously and simply decorated gathering place with a weathered stone fireplace, comfortable upholstered arts and crafts oak furniture, wicker chairs, window seats, and large oceanfront windows. the atmosphere is informally elegant and beautifully detailed. there is a library full of prized old photographs, prints, area maps, and vintage books--gifts of past guests and family members spanning nearly 100 years. the dining rooms look out on eggemoggin just a few yards away. we have 15 family-sized cottages scattered along the shorefront or nestled amongst the trees. cottages have from two to five bedrooms and come with simple, rustic, yet sophisticated comforts. they have spacious living rooms and most have real wood burning fireplaces. firewood is delivered daily during high season. there are a variety of kitchens or kitchenettes, some sophisticated, some funky rustic, cabin cool, all with utensils. some cottages are log-cabin style built specifically for certain illustrious past guests from trees harvested on the property a half-century ago. each has its own distinct personality, well-maintained antique furnishings and, stories to tell. others have clapboard siding. others are relatively new. lone pine cottage and boathouse cottage are fully winterized and are frequently occupied during the winter as well. Direction to the property from south - if entering maine from the south on i-95 remain on i-95 north to exit 44. take i-295 north to gardner where it re-joins i-95 north. take i-95 north again to exit 113. take route 3 east through belfast to bucksport. bucksport rigorously enforces its speed regulations. fines can be steep. after crossing the second bridge approaching bucksport, turn right to stay on route 3. you will then also be on route 15 south but the signage can be confusing here. a few miles outside of bucksport, turn right following route 15 south toward blue hill, deer isle and stonington. in another 20 minutes you should be in blue hill. follow route 15, turning right at the exxon station at the bottom of the hill. drive through blue hill, up the hill to the flashing light. go straight, on route 15 south toward deer isle and stonington. we are about 11 miles from the center of blue hill. drive about four miles and turn left at the stop sign. this is the intersection of snows cove road and the mines road. |
