| Hotel Description: The unassuming exterior of the 10-story Hotel Madera gives little hint of the elegantly exotic escape that awaits you behind its doors. Hotel Madera's 82 guestrooms and 12 specialty guestrooms feature animal-print accents to their mohair-padded headboards, silk pillows, velvet draperies, triple-sheeted beds, and quilted blankets. Favorite snacks, a preferred pillow, or a plate of warm cookies is just a phone call away. The restaurants defining decorative element is a manmade, floor-to-ceiling birch-like "firefly tree," hung with lanterns and lit by candles. The space includes a backlit amber glass bar and lots of natural materials such as wood and iron. Much of the atmosphere comes from the lighting. The kitchen is partially visible behind a rustic stone wall. Outside seating at a terrace cafe adds to the lively atmosphere.
